Life on Mars [2008]

Where were you in 1973? NYPD Detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) finds himself in the cultural hotbed of New York City in the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War, Watergate, women's lib and the civil and gay rights movements - without a cell phone, computer, PDA or MP3 player -- suddenly hurtled back in time when he's ripped from 2008 after being hit by a car while chasing down a criminal. He's trying mightily to understand what has just happened to him and how he can get back "home."

What exactly is going on here? It's like Sam is on a different planet. It's the Wild West out there: uncontrollable criminals, police on the take... whom can he trust? Forced to use a different moral code and without hi-tech crime fighting techniques, Sam clashes with his new boss at the 125th Precinct, the irascible Lieutenant Gene Hunt (Harvey Keitel), who would rather use his fists than his brains to solve a crime. Annie Norris (Gretchen Mol) is a member of the Police Women's Bureau. At a time when females were only allowed to do menial tasks and not real police work, she's the smartest person in the room. Little does she know that her dream of becoming a real cop will come true. Right now she's struggling to deal with being undermined, under-used and in general against the sexism of the times. However she's the one person Sam can turn to to help guide him in his new reality. Theirs is a strong bond. After all, they're both outcasts.

Rookie Detective Chris Skelton (Jonathan Murphy) is a sweet guy trying to make it in this uncompromising world, but right now he's out of his league with Gene and Ray. Levity [2003]

The film philosophical approach at redemption. The protagonist Manual Jordan has gotten parole from a life sentence for the murder of Abner Easley, and returns to the city he lived in to try to seek redemption. He ends up living and working at a community house run by a preacher, Miles Evans. The film is equipped with beautiful voice-overs about the meaning of life and different philosophies for getting redeemed. Manual also becomes friends with Adele Easley, his victims sister, in an attempt to make up for what he did. While working at the home he has interactions with Sofia Mellinger, the druggie daughter of a famous singer, struggling with the lack of adult guidance in her life.

Lakeview Terrace [2008]

Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) is an LAPD officer and strict single father of a 15 year old daughter and 10 year old son. He is also the self-appointed neighborhood watch patrol in Lakeview Terrace. A young interracial couple, Chris (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington), move into their first home next door to Abel. Abel is raising his children by very strict standards, and he disapproves of any bad behavior in the neighborhood. Abel believes that Chris and Lisa are bad influences on his children, and he decides to harass them until they move. Abel has a security flood light that is focused into Chris and Lisa's bedroom. Chris has asked Abel to move it, but he won't. Then someone deliberately damages the air conditioning unit and slashes four of Chris' tires. Chris tries to make a truce with Abel, but Abel is determined to get rid of them. After Abel crosses the line, Chris and Lisa begin to fight back and the situation escalates.

The Lion King 1 1/2

The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

Simba and Nala have a daughter, Kiara. Timon and Pumbaa are assigned to be her babysitters, but she easily escapes their care and ventures into the forbidden lands. There she meets a lion cub named Kovu and they become friends. What she and her parents do not know is that Kovu is the son of Zira - a banished follower of the now-dead Scar. She plans to raise Kovu to overthrow Simba and become the king of the Pride Lands. This tests not only Kiara and Kovu's relationship as they mature, but Simba's relationship with his daughter.

The Lion King

A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. After years of exile he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own thus completing the "Circle of Life".
